National Theatre’s
Public Acts:
Stories To Get Us Through

Role: Lead Producer, working alongside Director James Blakey. With support from the National Theatre, Cast and Right Up Our Street in Doncaster.

When our plans for an epic community musical adaptation of The Caucasian Chalk Circle had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we reimagined how we could continue to work with communities in Doncaster through the crisis.

Stories To Get Us Through became a storytelling podcast project, written and performed by the people of Doncaster. Inspired by real life events and created during lockdown.

Over several months we connected with our amazing community company, aged 17 to 73, through creative writing sessions on Zoom and resource packs sent through the post. We arranged doorstep photoshoots, and recorded the entire podcast remotely. The featured stories have been created by people of various ages, genders, nationalities and cultural backgrounds, who all live in Doncaster. The stories are about courage, resilience, friendship and hope.
